Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs: Welcome

What are the benefits of getting eyelash extensions?

1.You will look absolutely gorgeous and compliments will start pouring in! Eyelash extensions enhance your eyes beautifully and they can make your eyes look flirty, bigger, brighter and youthful!
“ If you look good, you feel good, and if you feel good, you do good” - Georges St-Pierre
2.You can still do anything that you did before! Eyelash extensions feel weightless and are relatively low maintenance to take care of.
3.Sleep in! With eyelash extensions, you won’t have to curl your eyelashes and apply mascara so you can easily shave off a chunk of time to get ready in the morning. You pretty much look all put together when you wake up!
4.They’re perfect for vacations and special events! Eyelash extensions are waterproof and sweat proof so you don’t have to worry about them peeling off like false strip lashes.
5.You can worry less. Ever worried about your mascara smudging or flaking and making you look like a raccoon? That won’t happen with eyelash extensions and you no longer have to apply layers of different mascaras to achieve that look you want!

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent strands of synthetic eyelashes and they are made to replicate the shape and curve of a natural eyelash. When these extensions are applied, they can extend the length, thickness and curl of your natural lashes without damage. The results can dramatically enhance the beauty of your eyes. As well, eyelash extensions feel weightless on your eyes and are long lasting. At the Lash Cottage, we offer lash extensions in a large variety of lengths, curls and thickness for you to choose from during our consultation.

Will lash extensions damage my natural lashes?

Lash extensions will not damage your natural eyelashes! That is, when they are applied properly by a professional lash technician. At Lash Cottage, we apply individual extensions on to the base of each natural lash because this technique allows your natural lashes to continue to grow healthily in its usual lash growth cycle without interruptions. During your appointment with us, we will have a consultation to understand the look that you desire and we will also assess the condition of your natural lashes. This process will help us determine the correct diameters and lengths to utilize that will be the most optimal for your lash health.

Can I swim, shower, workout, or do hot yoga while wearing eyelash extensions?

Absolutely! You may do all these activities worry-free. The medical grade adhesive that we use is waterproof but there are certain care instructions that should still be followed to get long lasting eyelash extensions. For the first 24 hours after your initial application, we recommend that you do not to get your eye area wet.
Please check out the ‘Lash Care’ section of our website for more information!

Can I wear any eye makeup after my extensions are applied?

Yes! However, it is recommended that you use the lash cleanser that we provide for you daily and use oil-free makeup, makeup remover and skincare products to prolong the life of your lash extensions.
Avoid waterproof makeup! As the wax and silicone in these products will weaken the adhesive bonds between your extensions and natural lashes. Check out our 'Lash Care' section for more information on makeup products and makeup removal with eyelash extensions.

I am going on a vacation or I have a special event coming up, when is the best time to book an appointment?

If you have never had eyelash extensions before, we recommend that you get a full set 3 weeks before the event and book a fill appointment 3 days before your vacation/special day. This way, we can ensure you have no allergy symptoms on your special day and, if needed, you can always change up your look at your fill appointment and experiment with different lengths, curls and thicknesses! You’ll also have time to learn and adjust to a proper aftercare routine.

How often will I need to get a touch up?

Normally we shed 1- 4 natural eyelashes each day, however other factors such as the climate, how often you work out and how you take care of your eyelash extensions will affect the longevity of your lash extensions. We recommend getting a touch up every 2-3 weeks because extensions grow with your natural lashes and will need to be removed as the extension grows to the tip of your natural lashes. During the touch up appointment, extensions that have grown out will be removed and replaced with a new extension at the root of your natural lashes.

What should I expect during my appointment?

Please check out the 'Policies' section to find out what you need to do to prepare for your appointment.
When you arrive, you will need to complete a consent form to ensure that you understand what the application process will be like and for us to determine if you have allergies to the materials that we will use.
Afterwards, a consultation will follow to determine the look you are going for. When we have chosen the right lash look for you, we will begin the application process where I will begin with lightly cleaning your natural lashes than applying eye pads to cover your bottom eyelashes. Then you can just relax and take a lash nap! You should not feel any discomfort throughout the application. If you do, please let your lash technician know right away!

How long does it take?

All full set will take approximately 2.5 - 3 hours, this includes filling out forms, consultation, lash cleansing and application time.
A lash fill will take approximately 1- 2 hours.
